MUMBAI: Tensions between India and Pakistan, and the recent ban on Pakistani artistes, have escalated to a new level, at least that is what rumour has.
People from the film industry are speculating Mahira Khan, who is supposed to be starring opposite King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan in the upcoming action-thriller ‘Raees’, has been kicked out of the star cast.
The development was reported by the Indian media Monday, and it comes after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a right-wing Marathi ethnocentric regional political party, issued an order saying it will block the release of ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, starring Pakistani Fawad Khan.
A DNA report claimed Mahira Khan has been dropped from Shah Rukh Khan’s film. The agency issued the news on Sunday and quoted an anonymous source as saying, “It was a very painful decision for producer Ritesh Sidhwani to take. The pressure to replace her had been building up for months. [However,] It reached a crescendo after the Uri attacks.”
The source further said, “People suggested all kinds of solutions to the impasse, including shooting in Dubai. But it didn’t seem viable. Now, Mahira has unfortunately been relieved of her duties.”
While the producers or Khan are yet to confirm the reports, Rahul Dholakia, the director of the film, said in a tweet, without naming anyone and using not so many words, that the filmmakers have received enough pressure and they’ll do as they’re being told; there isn’t any need to put more pressure.
Shaha Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ is supposed to release on January 26, 2017 where it is expected to clash with Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kaabil. —Newsmedialive.
