First Turkish Netflix original series to tell story of American father joining Daesh to save son

The U.S. online entertainment giant, Netflix, will release the company’s first Turkish original series telling the story of a father whose son leaves home to join Daesh terrorists, according to Turkish media reports.

Details have begun to emerge after an agreement between Netflix and O3 Media, a Turkish production company. Eight episodes have reportedly been written for the action-drama series and submitted to officials at Netflix for approval.

“There has not yet been a statement about the cadre and cast of the project, as it is still in the scripting stage,” Ali Eyüboğlu, a prominent entertainment columnist from the Turkish daily Milliyet, said.

According to Eyüboğlu, the series centers on an American father who comes to Turkey to find his son, who traveled to the southeast of the country in an attempt to cross the border and join Daesh.

“The father then travels to Iraq with the support he receives from people in the region and joins Daesh,” Eyüboğlu added.

Netflix International Original Series Vice President Erik Barmack previously disclosed during an event Friday that the company was thrilled to be making its first original Turkish production.

“We are confident that Netflix will serve as the ideal international platform for this fabulous Turkish production, and we look forward to sharing even more details later this year,” Barmack said.

Netflix announced that 600 new original titles, movies, documentaries, stand-up shows and children’s shows would be available worldwide in 2017, allowing more than 100 million uses to watch content anywhere, at any time.
